Tree removal tied to land clearing, homesite preparation, or site development is a different scope of work than single-tree hazard removal by a certified arborist. H&R Landworks handles tree removal in the context of land management — clearing trees for new construction, removing trees that are threatening structures or access, and taking down timber as part of larger clearing projects throughout Pasco and Hernando Counties. We use excavators, skid steers, and chainsaws to fell, section, and process trees of all sizes, and we handle stump removal in the same visit. Call (727) 326-7923 for a free on-site assessment.
What Tree Removal Actually Involves
Tree removal in land clearing applications involves the systematic felling, sectioning, and processing of trees that are interfering with construction, development, pasture management, or property access. This differs from residential tree service (trimming, pruning, single-tree hazard work) in both scale and method. For land clearing applications, trees are typically felled with chainsaws, pushed with a skid steer or excavator, sectioned into manageable lengths, and either chipped, mulched, pushed to a burn pile (where permitted), or hauled off-site. Large trees — live oaks, slash pines, and sand pines over twelve inches in diameter — require careful felling technique and staged processing. For homesite preparation, trees are removed from the defined building footprint, driveway corridor, and utility easements while trees outside the clearing boundary are preserved. Selective tree removal — taking specific trees while leaving others — requires an operator experienced enough to fell in tight spaces without damaging adjacent trees or structures. Stump grinding follows tree removal in the same site visit for most projects, ensuring the cleared area is ready for the next phase of construction or development without additional mobilization costs.
Our Tree Removal Process
Tree removal for land clearing and site prep is methodical work. Here’s how we handle it.
Step 1 — Site Walk & Removal Plan
We walk the property with you, identify trees for removal and trees to preserve, assess felling direction constraints (buildings, fences, neighboring trees), and determine whether stump grinding or extraction is required post-removal. We pull any required tree removal permits at this stage if needed.
Step 2 — Hazard & Access Assessment
Before felling begins, we check for overhead utilities, underground utility markings, proximity to structures, and site access for our equipment. For trees within striking distance of structures, we plan staged removal with fall zones that clear the building. Dial 811 before any ground disturbance.
Step 3 — Tree Felling & Processing
Trees are felled with chainsaws using appropriate notch and back-cut technique for the planned fall direction, aided by equipment for larger-diameter stems where necessary. Limbs are stripped, the stem is sectioned, and material is either processed on-site or staged for removal depending on the project scope.
Step 4 — Stump Grinding
Following tree removal, stumps are ground to at least six inches below grade (deeper for construction applications) using our skid steer grinding attachment. Surface roots within two to three feet of the stump are addressed in the same pass.
Step 5 — Site Cleanup
All debris, wood chips, and material are cleaned up to the agreed scope — either pushed to a burn pile, chipped in place, or hauled away. The cleared area is left graded and accessible before we load out.

Why Pasco & Hernando County Property Owners Choose H&R Landworks

Tree removal in the context of land clearing requires a different skill set than residential tree service. It’s about managing large volumes of material efficiently, sequencing the work so each phase sets up the next, and leaving a site that’s ready for its next contractor. H&R Landworks has handled tree removal as part of clearing projects ranging from single-lot homesites to multi-acre development parcels across Pasco and Hernando Counties.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tree Removal
How big a tree can you take down? We can handle most trees you’d find on a typical residential or rural Florida property. For extremely large, extremely hazardous, or tight-quarters urban removals where a crane is needed, a specialized tree service may be a better fit. We’ll be honest with you on the walkthrough.
Do you handle storm-damaged trees? Yes. Trees that came down in a storm, leaning trees, and trees with major damage all fall under what we do. After a storm, response times might be slower than usual because everyone calls at once, but we get to them.
Can you take down a tree close to my house? Usually, yes — but it takes more planning. Trees near structures, power lines, or septic systems need a controlled removal, often sectioning the tree down piece by piece. We’ll look at it and tell you whether it’s something we can handle safely.
Will you remove the wood, or do I get to keep it? Either way. If you want the firewood or the trunk for milling, we’ll cut it up and leave it where you want it. Otherwise, we haul it or mulch what makes sense.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree? Sometimes. Pasco, Hernando, and other counties around here have rules on certain protected trees, and HOAs may have their own. The property owner is responsible for permits, but we’ll flag anything we notice. Check with your local code office if you’re unsure.
What if a tree is sitting on a structure already? That’s an urgent and more dangerous situation. Call us — we’ll come look as quickly as we can. Sometimes it’s a job for us, sometimes it’s a job for an insurance-coordinated emergency tree service. We’ll tell you honestly.
